One issue that I often run into when styling my hair in vintage styles is product build-up. Between hairspray, setting lotion, and pomade; my hair can become quite coated in so much product that a regular shampoo wash does not do the trick!
So what is a Pinup to do?
Well first off, you would need a couple basic household items: Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar. And then it is off to the shower!
Once in there, I really soak my hair. I like to make sure every strand is completely drenched in order to help when I actually begin to wash my hair.
Then in the palm of my hand I make a mixture of baking soda and my shampoo. For me, I use about 2 Tablespoons of baking soda to a silver dollar sized dollop of shampoo. Then I suds up!
After I have rinsed the mixture out of my hair, I make a rinse of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to one cup of water. I am “lucky” and was given more than one Peri Bottle when I delivered, so I use one of those for my mixture! (For those of you that may not know…a peri bottle is a bottle you would put water in in order to help clean your nether region during bathroom visits after delivery)
Then, I rinse out my hair with the apple cider rinse. At this point my hair is a little too squeaky clean, so I make sure that I condition my hair well. Sometimes I will use this opportunity to do a coconut oil conditioning treatment if my hair condition is less than desirable.
In the end? I have soft and silky hair that no longer is weighted down by a ton of built up product. I usually roll my hair in rollers with Lottabody in order to be ready for the next day of Pinup living!
Thank you so much for sharing your tips. XXXX
